Complete certifications
All volunteers must complete a series of safety certifications. Some must be done annually, others only need to be completed once in your lifetime as a volunteer.
Checking your certification status
You can always follow these steps to see what certifications are complete, and which are inactive/expired.
1. Log in to your ayso109 account here
2. Select the “Volunteer” option on the left-hand side
3. Review the “My Roles and Certifications” section, which displays the status of each certification in the “Compliant” column.
Risk Status / Background Check
This is completed via Sterling Volunteers. After registering as an AYSO volunteer, expect a confirmation email. There’s nothing else to do, except check back later to confirm your status has been updated (using the steps above).
SafeSport
1. Navigate to the “My roles and Certificates” section of your “Volunteer” page per the instructions in the “
Checking your certification status” section above.
2. Select the checkbox next to “SafeSport” and click the “Renew & Update” button
3. From the subsequent pop-up, follow the link.
4. Enter your information, or if you’ve done SafeSport before, click the Login button.
5. You’ll be taken to a page where you can then complete the SafeSport training. If you’ve never taken it before, you’ll take the first version of the course, which takes ~90 minutes (you can leave and resume anytime). If you have taken before, you’ll be prompted with a 30 minute refresher (which is required annually).
**Note** - The language describing the training is a bit confusing (it references that it is required for US Olympic and Paralympic Adult Participants). Don’t worry, you’re in the right place.
6. Once completed, you’ll be given a digital certificate, which you must then upload to your profile.
To do so, navigate back to the pop-up from step #2 above (from the Volunteer tab in your account at ayso109.org). Select the “Upload” option, and submit the digital copy of the certificate you were provided when you completed the training (you can access by going back to the SafeSport website link).
Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest
These three trainings need only be completed once in your lifetime as a volunteer, and are all completed from the AYSOU training platform.
1. Login at ayso109.org
2. Click the “AYSOU” tab on the left-hand side of the screen.
3. Select the “Training Library” option on the left-hand side of the page.
4. Click “View Courses” under the Safe Haven category.
5. Enroll in the three required courses (or any that you have yet to complete): Safe Haven, Concussion, and Cardiac Arrest.
6. You can then view and complete any enrolled course from the “My Training” tab by clicking the “Start” button.
You can resume incomplete trainings and view trainings you’ve already completed.
7. After completing each training, download the certificate from the “My Trainings” tab by clicking the “Certifications” link for each completed course.
8. Go back to the “Volunteers” tab from your ayso109.org account
9. Select the checkbox of the training you completed and click the “Renew and Update” button, which will open a pop-up that will prompt you to submit your certificate.
Live Scan (Fingerprinting)
All volunteers must complete Live Scan fingerprinting (once), either at a Live Scan location (typically UPS stores), or at an AYSO sponsored Live Scan event.
We will hold a Live Scan event immediately following the pre-season coaches meeting (8/23/2025), or you can complete on your own by visiting https://www.applicantservices.com/ayso/ and following the instructions. You’ll be prompted to pay (which you can request for reimbursement) and then schedule an appointment at a nearby location (of your choice). Read the instructions carefully, as you’ll be required to bring 2-pieces of identification.
