About Fall Core

Fall soccer with the AYSO is all about kids having fun, staying active, and being part of our shared community. We keep things simple, welcoming, and low-pressure—because we believe every kid should get to play, grow, and love the game, no matter their experience or skill level.

  • Registration Opens 5/11

  • No tryouts required, all players welcome!

  • Games are played on Saturdays, starting 9/12 and ending 11/14

  • Teams will be announced in late-August (see season timeline below).

We are entirely volunteer supported, and can only field as many teams as our pool of volunteer coaches and referees allow.

Click here to volunteer (no prior experience required, training will be provided). For more details about how to volunteer, you can read more here.

Season Timeline

**Timeline Subject To Change**

The best way to help us stick to this timeline is to register early (and volunteer to coach or referee)

  • 5/11: Registration Opens

Register your children to play Fall Core soccer.

The earlier you register, the sooner we can finalize team formation and ensure a smooth start to the season.

  • 8/1: Team Formation Starts

Some registrations after this point may be waitlisted, as we need sufficient time to form teams and ensure we have enough volunteers to start the season on-time. We’ll do our best to accommodate as many players as possible from the wait-list, but the best way to ensure a spot is to register early!

  • 8/10-8/23: Teams Released

As teams are finalized and coaches assigned, we’ll begin notifying families.

Coaches will begin reaching out to their teams to make introductions and start planning practices.

If you haven’t heard from your coach by 8/27, contact rc@mpsoccer.org.

  • 8/TBD: Coaches Meeting

A mandatory virtual meeting for coaches will be held with a briefing on the season and Q&A

  • 8/24 - 8/28: Practices Start

Your first week’s practice may be more of a team meeting to make introductions and get to know one another.

Coaches select practice days/times, so you won’t know until your team is assigned when those will be. The best way to have more control over your child’s practice schedule is to volunteer to coach!

  • 9/4: Game Schedule Released

Games are always on Saturdays, but times will vary (though will typically be within the same window each week).

In general you will be at the same field every week (except for older divisions that may travel to nearby regions).

  • 9/12: First Games

The first Saturday of the season game schedule!

These games will be more like scrimmages, as teams will only have had a few practices so far.

Parent volunteers should help organize post-game snacks and field setup/take down at the beginning and end of the day.

  • 11/14: Last Games :-(

The last Saturday of games for the season.

Player awards will have been distributed to coaches the week prior, and will be distributed at a post-game ceremony or post-season team party (organized by coaches/parents).

Divisions

Divisions are divided by age and gender, based on the birth year of your child. Starting with the 2026-2027 season AYSO has shifted completely to a school-year age matrix with an August 1 cutoff to determine player divisions, aligning with U.S. Soccer and other major youth soccer organizations. More info here.

  • U6/Kinderleague: Born between Aug 1, 2020 - Jul 31, 2022

  • U8/U7: Born between Aug 1, 2018 - Jul 31, 2020

  • U10: Aug 1, 2016 - Jul 31, 2018

Playing with friends

While in some previous seasons we have accepted friend requests, for the 2026-2027 season we will not. We believe that playing on a team with new people is a great way for kids to branch out, build confidence, and make new friends. We will do our best to make sure that each player has at least a few schoolmates on their team, and will try to pair players with teams that practice at nearby fields.

We do allow Head Coach and Referee to make a small number of player requests during their registration, so volunteer now!

We aim for a mix of skills and experience on each team and are counting on you to support your child's AYSO experience regardless of which team he or she is on.

Practices

We know you are eager to know what days/times your team will practice. We won’t know until teams are formed and coaches assigned in late August.

Practices are scheduled during the week at park and school fields throughout Menlo Park and Atherton.

Practices last 60-90 minutes (depending on age) and begin in late August. Players must wear shinguards to practices as well as games; cleats are optional but recommended. Coaches pick their practice slots, so the best way to practice at your preferred time is to volunteer to coach!

  • U6: Combined practice + games on Saturdays

  • U8 (Ages 6-7): 1 practice a week

  • U10+: 2 practices a week

Games

All games are held on Saturdays. Game times will vary from week to week, but most games are in the morning. In the younger age divisions, all games are played in our region; older teams may occasionally travel to nearby cities (Portola Valley, Redwood City) for games.

Game length is as follows:

  • Kinderleague: 75-minute combination practice and game

  • 1st & 2nd: two 20-minute halves plus a halftime of approximately five minutes

  • U10: two 25-minute halves plus halftime

  • U12: two 30-minute halves

  • U14: two 35-minute halves

  • U19: two 45-minute halves
