The more advanced clinics are described briefly in Becoming a better referee and the Referee's Handbook.

Referee Equipment

Referee equipment will be available during the evening classes on 8/27, 8/28, 9/2, and 9/4.

Under-8 Clinic

If you are a new referee for Under 8 year olds, you MUST attend one of the U8 classes. This clinic introduces potential new referees to AYSO soccer as it is played by 6 and 7 year olds (Under 7, Under 8) in Menlo Park. It assumes no prior knowledge of soccer. This clinic is a single, 3 hour class session.  The class sessions for the Under-8 clinic will be held twice in 2003: You may attend any one of these classes.

Regional Referee Course (New referee - U9 and above)

If you are a new referee for U9 or above, please attend of the Regional Referee courses. The Regional clinic covers the full Laws and prepares both experienced Under 8 referees and folks with no referee experience at all to referee games at the Under 10 level. You must attend all three sessions plus sit for the regional exam to referee U10s and U12s. You must pass the exam by a score of 75% or better (C+!) to earn your badge.

The Regional Referee class will be given once in 2003:
Class 1 Class 2 Class 3 Time/Location
9/2 (Tues) 9/3 (Wed) 9/4 (Thurs) 6:30 pm, Burgess Rec Center

Refresher Clinics / Intermediate Referee Course

If you are a returning referee in U9+ with a Regional Badge, please plan on attending one of the refresher courses.  "Refresher" clinics are designed to help referees who officiated games last season get "back into the flow" at the start of the Fall.  Any changes to the Laws will be covered in detail and questions and issues of interest to the attendees will be discussed.   New Law books and revised Referee Handbooks will be available.

In these classes, we will give the beginning units of the Intermediate Referee Course (previously the Area Referee Course).  This is the next badge level after the Regional course.  We will give all of the units over time.  Or, you can take the entire course at once.  Schedule TBD.

Refresher clinics will be held:

Advanced Referee Course

We expect to have an Advanced Referee course (previously known as the Section Referee Course) during the Fall season.  Check back here for more details.

Field Workshops

Please see the Palo Alto schedule for the dates and times of their fine series of on-field clinics this September.
